Play Mats

My children love to use the floor mats to build forts. They hook together easily for walls and a roof.

Also, the mats are great to put under a child training potty. They are waterproof so the wee-wee won't stain them or your floor.

If you are going to buy them, make sure to air them out outside for a day or two before bringing them inside. The foam is labeled non-toxic but has a tremendous smell.

Keeping Covers on at Night

In order for our children to stay tucked in at night, my husband decided to make the bed sideways. We now turn the flat sheet 90 degrees and tuck the top and bottom under the sides of the bed. Add a couple blankets on top and you have a perfectly made bed. Our oldest 2 love it because they slide under the sheet and no matter how often they toss and turn they stay warm. We love it because we no longer need to go to their room in the middle of the night to replace their covers.

Children Cutting Potatoes

My children love to sit at the counter with a spreading knife and cut their own potatoes when I make dinner. They get a kick out of seeing how small they can make the pieces and I don't have to worry about a finger getting wacked off.

Sneak Peek

I have been busy these past few days but want to give a preview of what is coming up. We had dinner with friends this weekend, both are science teachers, and they inspired me to do more science with the children. I am searching for cheap but durable equipment for these experiments and will post what I find. We did a fun experiment today (actually we did it multiple times as they LOVED it) so I will post a few experiments also. Maybe I can convince Teri to pass along a few of her great experiments as well.

I am also going to do a few posts about thank you notes from your children as this time of year is full of note writing at our house.

If there is something you want me to post about feel free to let me know either in the comments here or through email anothermomsview@gmail.com. I am more than happy to do the legwork to find information you want to read.

flaxseed meal instead of oil, butter or eggs

Don't have eggs? Mix one Tablespoon flaxseed meal with 3 Tablespoon water in a small bowl. Let sit for 2 minutes then add to recipe in place of 1 egg.

Want to avoid oil or butter? 3 Tablespoons flaxseed meal instead of 1 Tablespoon margarine, butter, or oil makes your baking healthier.

I like to use flaxseed meal in everything I bake because it is so good for you.

Tips:
Keep flaxseed meal refridgerated or frozen for longevity after opening.

Sprinkle a couple tablespoons onto your cereal, pancakes, or oatmeal for added fiber (4g), protein (3g), and antioxidants.

Toilet Paper Save

Stop this:

By doing this:

If the roll won’t roll, the paper won’t cover the floor.

Toddler Chores

Try giving your toddler small chores to do. In order for success, the items need to be within reach.

Our 1 year old can do many chores such as setting the table, clearing condiments off the table after dinner and placing them into the refrigerator, holding the dustpan while sweeping, putting dirty clothes in the hamper, bringing clean diapers for the baby, throwing dirty diapers in the garbage, and collecting his coat, hat, gloves and shoes to put on before going outside.

Avoid a Meltdown

Feed your happy children before they are hungry. Low blood sugar can cause children to become irritable making even the simplest situation unbearable.

Here is a handy chart you can print and hang on your fridge for quick snack ideas.

A pikelet is a pancake and if you figure out what the mousetraps are please let me know!

Quick Orange

In order to get a quick dose of Vitamin C, cut an orange into small pieces instead of making a mess by peeling it.
